Middle Class Fund

Problem

A volunteer-driven COVID relief fund needed to coordinate donations and distribution at peak crisis traffic — with no existing infrastructure and a team of volunteers, not engineers. Every application had to be manually verified against eligibility before a rupee moved, so the dashboard had to make that verification workload manageable at volume, not just record transactions.

Approach

Shipped fast with React and Node.js, then scaled the backend with AWS Lambda and SQS when traffic spiked. Built for volunteers first — simple dashboards, minimal training required — so volunteers could review and validate applications without engineering support.

What I built

• Volunteer dashboard in React for reviewing, validating, and tracking relief applications
• Node.js/Express API for fund and disbursement management workflows
• AWS Lambda + SQS queue for handling peak traffic bursts
• Deployment pipeline that let non-engineers update content safely

Outcome

Processed 20,000+ relief applications at crisis-level traffic, with volunteers using the dashboard to manually verify and validate every application against eligibility — without going down or needing engineering support.
